Hunter Valley, New South Wales
Vat 47 Chardonnay comes entirely from our Short Flat vineyard, with the original chardonnay vines on this block being planted by Murray Tyrrell in the late 1960s. The fruit was hand picked, basket pressed and matured for eight months in high quality, tight grain French oak barriques, with only a small percentage being new.
The wine shows an incredibly rich fruit profile with bright, clean acid on the finish and some secondary characters derived from the slight solids ferment. With its backbone of tight acidity and citrus, this is a very strong example of modern Hunter Valley chardonnay. As with all of our chardonnays, Vat 47 does not undergo any malolactic fermentation.
